[There's just a pause at that, and Pokey gives an unbelieving look at Slugger. It wasn't at the nature of the question, but at the fact the question was even asked itself. In his own mind, even though he'd deny it to most others, Pokey had answered the question a while ago: Slugger wasn't just his friend. He his best friend, the best one he'd ever had. He'd assumed Slugger either felt the same or something like it, which he suppose he took for granted.
But it was odd actually hearing it asked if it was true. Pokey starts for a moment, then stops, before giving an exaggerated sigh.]
...Do I really have to say it?
[It isn't hostile, or malicious, but just...embarrassed. He'd kind of hoped he wouldn't have to say it out loud.
Because, if something happened where Slugger did betray his trust, as doubtful as Pokey thought that was by this point, he wouldn't have to think back to how he had been so cheated that he'd foolishly proclaimed his friendship out loud. Had made it binding.
He doesn't mind doing it, in theory. He's just embarrassed and slightly scared to.
